I had to reinstall Windows 10 recently plus all of my software, including Studio One, and all of my plugins. I installed SynthMaster 2.9 but it doesn't show up in S1's Instruments list. Interestingly, it does show up in Reaper on the PC, and also in Studio One and Logic on my MacBook. I've also got SynthMaster One and that shows up everywhere.
I tried resetting S1's blacklist and restarting, but SM2.9 still didn't appear, so I did a rescan to no effect. S1's log file doesn't show anything relevant. I've emailed KV331 Audio Support and all they've suggested so far is what I've already done.
So now I'm wondering if anyone here has had and solved this problem, or if anyone can suggest anything else I can try.

Simple question but have you checked to see if you accidentally hid it or it became hidden in S1? I was just trying to reinstall Trackspacer when I realized I hid it on accident.

  1. Founded in 1995, PreSonus Audio Electronics, Inc. Is a leading designer and manufacturer of audio recording software, hardware and related accessories.
  2. Feb 16, 2020  On the Mac, SynthMaster shows up with the name SynthMaster2 for the VST and SynthMaster 2.9 Instrument for the AU version. In Windows, it just shows up as SynthMaster 2.9 Instrument x64 in Reaper, but I think it used to be SynthMaster 2.9 in Studio One.
  3. Dec 19, 2017  I run the 16.0.2 into Studio One as well as Reaper at my facility. Over the past few weeks, I've been leaning more towards Reaper and am absolutely loving it so far. You can record a live gig into Reaper and even muting your guitars on the PA will still record them into your recording device.
  4. Everything you need to record and produce on the go. Record wherever inspiration strikes with this complete, all-PreSonus package! Featuring multiplatform, bus-powered AudioBox iTwo audio/MIDI interface and award-winning Studio One recording and production software, PreSonus AudioBox® iTwo Studio includes everything you need to record demos, rehearsal sessions, podcasts, sound effects for.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it was a fresh installation of Studio One on a fresh installation of Windows 10. It's not hidden, it's not there at all. The VST is in the C:Program FilesVstplugins and Studio One has found all of the other plugins except for SM2.9. What's more, the standalone .exe version of SM2.9 works fine.

Do you remember if it was an easy installation before?
I just created a new Admin Acct and a few things went astray.
I had to re-find and move some of the sound files for two of my Air Music Technology Instruments to work correctly again.
And iZotope Ozone was on my master but actually wasn't working because it needed to be re-authorized.. apparently it saw the new Admin account as a new PC.

It was plain sailing the first time. Everything installed and worked OK.
UPDATE: I've just found out that iZotope VocalSynth and StutterEdit are missing, despite the fact that their DLLs are in my Vstplugins folder, and I authorised both using the iZotope Product Portal. And Studio One thinks that Softtube Saturation Knob is installed, but that doesn't show up in the list either! An I'm not sure if that's a VST or an S1 plugin, but it doesn't have a VST in my VSTPlugins folder. Things are getting weirder!

How do you check if something is hidden in S1? And how do you unhide it?
For me, my plugins by Melda Productions scan, and show up in the browser.
But they won't load onto a track. Also, opening a song that has existing Melda
plugs makes S1 hang indefinitely, or the plugs show as 'Not Installed'.
Maybe a different problem entirely. But if not, maybe there's a solution.

View -> Plugin Manager
Shows all plugins S1 recognizes and allows you to filter the view by manufacturer, plugin type (VST2. VST3, Native, etc) and whether or not they are hidden.
For your Melda issue, I would try un-installing and re-installing to see if that fixes it.

Just a thought, I had similar problem with Diva on my two systems. On one I had a song with Diava inserted on a track as 'Diva'. When I transferred song to other system, I was getting the same problem - on the first system the device was named 'Diva' in the browser, on the second one it was called 'Diva(64)', so did not match what was in the song. The fix was to insert Diva into the track again, replacing the 'Diva' instance with the 'Diva(64)' instance - then everything worked fine.
Strangely, when I then transferred the song back to the first system, it continued to work fine
Just FWIW. Does that help at all?

On the Mac, SynthMaster shows up with the name SynthMaster2 for the VST and SynthMaster 2.9 Instrument for the AU version. In Windows, it just shows up as SynthMaster 2.9 Instrument x64 in Reaper, but I think it used to be SynthMaster 2.9 in Studio One. So if I ever get SM2.9 to actually be usable in S1 on Windows, I might face the same naming problem.
But I don't think it has anything to do with my problem, thanks, Leo.

Someone on the KVR Audio forums made a suggestion that worked. It was something to do with the folders. I recall that when I first installed it, shortly after reinstalling Windows, I put it into C:Program FilesVstplugins. Since then, every time I've tried reinstalling it, the installation dialog suggested that it should go into C:Program FilesVstplugins. This time, I uninstalled it and reinstalled into C:Program FilesVstpluginsKV331 Audio. And this time, it finally showed up in Studio One! Of course, this doesn't explain why it didn't show up before, even though it showed up in Reaper. But I'm happy to have it back.

Many DLL's are inside the VST folder but also there are plenty of folders in there too with the DLL's inside them. If Studio One is set to scan the VST Plugins folder then it goes into all the folders inside that for sure.
I have always had my KV331 synths inside their folder inside the VST plugins folder and never had an issue yet.
A good code of practice is to let plugin installs go where the manufacturers want them and leave that pretty well alone. Sometimes they want to put things inside the Steinberg folder and then I reset that to the VST Plugins folder and have never had an issue.
Synthmaster 2.9 is an amazing synth. Looking forward to 3.0 though!

Hello!
I have experienced issues with CPU-spikes and found a way to solve this on my computer. I just wanted to tell it here in case it can be a solution to others who have the same issue. I use Windows 10 and have experienced this both in SO3 and SO4:
When I play back a song which causes CPU spikes and open Windows resource monitor, I can see CPU 0 running on 90% load while CPU 1,2 and 3 are barely loaded. I have no idea why, but for some reason turning off fast startup in Windows solves this. The CPU load is now spread even between the cores without uncontrolled spikes. But every time Windows upgrades itself it switches fast startup back on. And every time this happens I have forgotten how to solve it and start troubleshooting from scratch

This also seems to work for me. I was out and about with my Surface Pro laptop today and noticed that it was spiking a fair bit. So I disabled fast startup then shut down and started up again. And, so far, no more spikes. But I'll be keeping an eye on it.

Glad to hear that! In my case, this is actually something I need to do to be able to use synths at all. Without this switched off I can have cpu-spikes and crackling sound after loading just one single synth.

I never had issues with this on, however I have already disabled this setting due to a Windows 10 bug that introduced itself in the Anniversary update a while back. Perhaps this has contributed to my system being pretty stable and CPU efficient with S1.
Thanks for reporting.

One thing that helped me was to go to 'device manager' -> 'universal Serial Bus Controllers' -> 'USB Root Hub / Generic Root Hub' etc -> right click 'properties' -> 'Power Management' -> UNCHECK 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power'. I am on a windows laptop, so might be different for a desktop pc.
Another thing you could do is to close all 'unnecessary' programs except Studio One, reopen the programs until the performance spikes appear again. I did undervolt my laptop and after turning off MSI Afterburner and Throttle Stop the performance spikes disappeared, no problems since then. Hope that helps.
